Dissolution of Peace

Opening Night

The Devil's Luck

After almost a week long celebration dedicated to the god of travelers and luck, the grand air ship was ready to leave port. The Rogue’s Lady launched and the gambling games begun.

After locking his things in the chest in his room, Gavriil immediately headed for the gambling hall. The others introduced themselves before Fritz and Cathal headed towards the gambling hall. Gavriil paid the entrance fee, and proceeded to ignore all the gambling opportunities and focus his sights on taking advantage of the confined quarters with the available women. Meanwhile, Cathal began searching for either his father or records of his father’s travel. Fritz began a 24 hour gambling binge that took full advantage of his hat of disguise in order to attempt to win the tournament. In his spare time, he managed to force one dwarf into poverty, and make a few humans take a long hard look at their life decisions.

Bael stayed behind in the room in order to leave unnoticed and meet with his contacts. After meeting with them in their room, he was given a wooden token, and told to wait for instructions regarding the planned heist to steal the tournament prize. Instead of waiting as told, he decided to break into room 413, the thieves secondary job, and steal a black metal box with gold inlays, a decorated short sword, and dyed black leather bound book. After his quick theft, he stored his backpack full of items and loot in the cargo hold to avoid possible searches.

After some more whoring and gambling, everyone went to sleep for the evening except for Fritz who decided to see how close he could get to the prize.

The following morning everyone decided to pay for the breakfast with the captain. When they arrived on the top deck, they joined the group of older patrons, the captain, and a few crew. The captain gave a brief speech welcoming everyone aboard and thanking them for flying with them on this trip. He then left and headed for the ship’s helm. Cathal, wanting to speak with the captain, asked one of the ship’s stewards if he could look at the records of the ship’s passengers, or meet with the captain. The steward explained very formally that the captain was very busy controlling the elemental and making certain that the ship arrived on time.

Cathal, deciding that this information wasn’t good enough, formed a plan to discretely speak with the captain away from prying eyes. Using the power of nature to do his will, he climbed like a spider across the outer shell of the ship, around the back, and onto the helm. Cathal stealthily moved behind the captain, and carefully grabbed his keyring, and yanked hard. Unfortunately for Cathal, the keyring was attached to the captain’s belt. This sparked an awkward situation where Cathal tried to talk his way out of getting incarcerated. When he realized things were not going well for him, he swung at the captain and missed and then jumped of of the ship. Cathal made his way to the animal hold, and hid there with his trusty boar while the situation cooled down.

Meanwhile, Gavriil had an awkward run in with one of his women friends from the previous evening. Fritz finally decided to rest. Bael tried to follow up on the Creepy Guy. The wooden token that Bael’s contacts gave him heated up in his pocket, and the headed to the meeting room. After knocking on the door and it opening slightly, he walked away and tossed the token out of the nearest porthole.

Cathal, desperate to get information, took the form of a common rat, and scurried through the ship to the captain’s quarters. Once there, as a rat, he searched for documents that might help him in his search for his family. While searching, a crew member burst in at the same time as a ship board alarm sounded. He scurried around the corner and slowly followed the flow of crew members towards the ship’s hold. When he got there, Cathal saw streams of flame coming out of the entrance to the hold. When Cathal glanced inside, he saw a human sized unnatural creature made of metal, and powered by magical fire. This automaton breathed flame on the five crew members fighting it with shields and long swords, and after the fire cleared, only one of the badly burned people was alive enough to flee. With the hold and things in it burning and the automaton showing no sign of slowing, the crew members decided to retreat and try to lure the construct somewhere where it would be more effective to fight it. Before following them, Cathal used his magic to create water and quench the flames in the cargo hold.

Meanwhile, in the gambling hall, Fritz had been conversing (and gambling) with his new friend Simon Thrisk, the imperial fire mage. Gavriil was at it again and using the reduced guard presence to hit on the more charismatic and less intelligent waitresses. Bael decided to investigate the upper deck of the ship. when eh got there, he noticed that the captain was away from the help and that a rope was keeping the ship on course. He quickly decided that un-looping the help was the best idea and began heading below deck. It was then that he noticed a darker section of night near one of the pylons that held the ship’s elemental. Before Bael could return below deck, a shadowy tendril flew at him and engulfed him. a second later, the darkness all around him was sinking into the floor beneath his feet, and he realized he was on the observation deck at the bottom of the ship.

During this, Fritz had left the gambling hall, and headed for the room, to don his armor and begin assisting the crew in whatever emergency was demanding this much man power and weaponry.

Suddenly to everyone’s surprise, the ship shuddered, stopped flying forward, and began to plummet towards the forest below. Upon feeling the lurching ship beneath him, Gavriil decided that it was now time to head to his room and gather his things before finding a more than fair maiden and rescuing her form the plummeting ship. Fritz followed a crewman towards the ship’s hold, and along with Cathal was preparing to attempt to end the automaton’s rampage through the ship. Bael was looking for the fastest way off of the ship short of jumping and relying on his magical items to save him.
